Family Promise

Faith Lutheran is a host church for the Family Promise of Kandiyohi County,  an interfaith ministry helping end homelessness for children and their  families.  Family Promise was launched August 2, 2015 and we joined 12  other host churches and over a dozen support churches from Kandiyohi  County in providing overnight stays, meals, fellowship, and support for  homeless children and their families.

As a host church, we welcome homeless families for seven nights (Sunday -  Saturday) from 5:00pm-6:30am.  Volunteers prepare an evening meal,  visit, play games, lend support, and spend the night at church.  During  our host weeks, 3 - 4 times a year, Sunday school rooms are converted  into family bedrooms.  After sleeping, guests have a light breakfast,  take a bag lunch, and spend the day at the Family Promise Day Center located on the 3rd floor of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Willmar.  There they receive job, educational, or career counseling  while working toward permanent housing for their families.  At 5:00pm,  they board the Family Promise van for the return trip to Faith where they are welcomed back by our volunteers.

How can you help?
We  need many volunteers for each host week.  Perhaps you can drive the  15-passenger van between Faith and the Day Center.  Perhaps you enjoy  cooking or baking and can help provide or cook evening meals during our  host week.  Perhaps you enjoy children and can be an evening activity  volunteer.  We also need people to sleep overnight as the hosts for each  of the 7 nights.  If you agree that children in Kandiyohi county  shouldn't be sleeping in cars overnight nor wondering if there will be supper, please join us in this ministry.  Your time and talents will be put to good use and will be much appreciated!  Contact Sandra Nelson at  354-7369 or email her at for more information on the events or to learn how you can be involved.  Thank you!
